Louie Anderson

March 10, 2011  |  8:00 PM  |  $24.50 - $28.50  |  Keswick Theatre  |  215.572.7650

imageLouie Anderson is one of the most versatile and successful comedians working in Hollywood today, loved by the television audiences who never missed his nightly hit series "Family Feud" or his appearances on late night chat shows. He is adored by standing-room-only crowds in Las Vegas and respected by readers of his books. He is worshiped by the rising comics he mentors and encourages with his honesty and wisdom.

Sharing the ups and downs of his childhood experiences as one of eleven children in Minnesota, Louie crafted comedy routines that rang true for his early club audiences while reducing them to helpless fits of laughter, routines that led him from his career as a counselor to troubled children to the first-place trophy at the 1981 Midwest Comedy Competition. Henny Youngman, who hosted the competition, recognized the diamond-in-the-rough genius of the young comic and hired him as a writer, providing invaluable experience that soon put Louie in his own spotlight on comedy stages all over the country.

Johnny Carson, the comedy icon for generations of rising stars, invited Louie to make his national television debut on the "The Tonight Show" in 1984, and the rest is history. Leno, Letterman, "Comic Relief" and Showtime and HBO specials followed, making Louie a household name and opening doors for him as an actor. He has guest-starred in sitcoms like "Grace Under Fire" and dramas like "Touched by an Angel" and "Chicago Hope," and he has had memorable featured roles in film comedies like "Coming to America," opposite of Eddie Murphy, and the classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." He is also host of the hilarious "Comedy Showcase," the late-night series that follows "Saturday Night Live."

In 1995 Louie put his creative energies to work on the Saturday morning animated series "Life with Louie." The long-running series based on Louie's own childhood and his life with his father won three Humanitas Prizes for writing on a childrens' animated series, making him the only three-time recipient of this award. It also earned a Genesis Award for its depiction of the proper treatment of animals and, most significantly, two Emmy Awards.

His best selling books include Dear Dad - Letters From An Adult Child, a collection of alternately touching and outrageous letters from Louie to his late father, and Good-bye Jumbo...Hello Cruel World, self-help for those who struggle with self-esteem issues, as only an award-winning comedian could write it.

Louie recently finished writing his newest installment on family,THE F WORD, HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR FAMILY. Now, Louie is traveling the States doing what Louie loves to do, Stand Up Comedy. Louie again delivers to his fans his inimitable brand of humor and warmth.

Gilbert Gottfried

March 10 -12, 2011  |  $20.00 - $32.00  |  Helium Comedy Club  |  215.496.9001

imageAt the young age of 15, Gilbert Gottfried began doing stand-up at open mike nights in New York City and, after a few short years, became known around town as "the comedian's comedian." After spending several years mastering the art of stand-up comedy, producers of the legendary NBC late night comedy show Saturday Night Live became aware of Gottfried and, in 1980, hired him as a cast member. It wasn't until a few years later when his true notoriety would begin when MTV hired him for a series of improvised and hilarious promos for the newly formed channel. This led to several television appearances on "The Cosby Show" and "Late Night with David Letterman."

Gottfried’s work in television soon led to roles in film. Most notable was his improvised scene as business manager Sidney Bernstein in the hit sequel "Beverly Hills Cop II," for which the New York Daily News said that “Gilbert Gottfried steals the picture with a single scene.” Aside from his glowing reputation in comedy clubs, Gottfried began to gain a reputation as the king of quirky roles in both movies and television. He appeared in such movies as "Problem Child," "Problem Child II," "Look Who's Talking II" and "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane." He was also the host of the very popular late night movie series "USA Up All Night."

After his stellar performance as the wise cracking parrot, IAGO, in the Disney classic "Aladdin," Gottfried became one of the most recognizable voiceover talents. His signature voice can be heard in several commercials, cartoons and movies, including the frustrated duck in the AFLAC Insurance commercials. Gottfried also is the voice of DIGIT in the long running PBS Series "Cyberchase."

Gottfried has been a regular on the new "Hollywood Squares" and is a frequent guest on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "The Howard Stern Show." Gottfried recently appeared in the hit comedy documentary "The Aristocrats," with Entertainment Weekly saying that "out of the 101 comedians who appear on screen, no one is funnier - or more disgusting – than Gilbert Gottfried.”

“Gilbert Gottfried Dirty Jokes” was recently released on both DVD and CD, featuring 50 non-stop minutes of Gottfried telling the funniest and filthiest jokes ever. The show was filmed live at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. Also featured on the DVD are some of the funniest bonus features ever, including wild stories, indignant ranting and celebrity impressions that will leave viewers crying for more. For this live performance, Gottfried puts aside political correctness and fires an onslaught of jokes that know no boundaries. At the end of the show, Gottfried tells what is known among comedians as the “Dirtiest Joke of All Time,” which is also the basis for “The Aristocrats.”

Gottfried is one of the most sought-after comedians, and regularly performs live to sold-out audiences across North America.

Armed with nothing but a stool, a microphone and a can of Diet Pepsi, Paula’s ability to create humor on the spot has become the stuff of legend. Little wonder people leave Paula’s shows complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter, and debating whether the random people she talked to are “plants” – which, of course they never are.

March 18 & 19, 2011  |  $20.00 - $32.00  |  Helium Comedy Club  |  215.496.9001

imageMyq Kaplan is a comedian named Myq Kaplan (pronounced “Mike Kaplan”).

The Comedians magazine calls him “a comedy machine, in the best possible way. The way that some machines vend soda or prevent other machines from killing future revolutionaries – that’s how Myq Kaplan does comedy: relentlessly, methodically, unblinkingly.”

Myq made his network television debut on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and has since gone on to appear on “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and in his own half-hour “Comedy Central Presents: Myq Kaplan” special. Most recently, he was a Top 5 finalist on the most recent season of Last Comic Standing. A Jewy-ish atheistic vegan who spells the name “Mike” weird (sorry or you’re welcome), Myq enjoys words, social justice, Netflix, and comic books. Also non-comic books, ping-pong, and being great with women. And grammar and run-on sentence fragments. And of course, entertaining his demographic, which is anyone who might know the word “demographic.”

John Heffron

March 23 - 26, 2011  |  $17.00 - $32.00  |  Helium Comedy Club  |  215.496.9001

imageJohn Heffron burst onto the comedic scene during the prime of his college heyday. Although he did graduate in his home state of Michigan, Heffron’s priorities became clear when he began to skip night class to perform live stand up. His first gig was even on the University of Michigan’s campus at the Main Street Comedy Showcase. Since then, his comedy has evolved in a unique and creative fashion as he has grown from a fun-loving college student to a bewildered newlywed.

John’s attraction to excitement and his personal vow to never perform physical labor have both inspired and motivated his successful career. The endless list of credits comprises his impressive resume and highlights many significant accomplishments. He not only won the second season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, but was also a finalist in the subsequent season. Heffron’s amusing and extensive material has earned him two separate half hour specials on the hit stand up show, Comedy Central Presents and he has become a regular on numerous VH1 satire series including I love the 80s: 3D, I Love the 70s: Volume 2, and My Coolest Years: My First Time. In addition to being featured on Thom Filicia’s Dress My Nest, Heffron has performed on CMT’s Coming to the Stage, NBC’s Late Friday, and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. He has made numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilbourne, and E!’s Chelsea Lately and 101 Craziest TV Moments. John is no stranger to live audiences and has taken the stage at several prestigious comedy festivals including the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal and the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen. John even had the recent honor of being a celebrity roaster for KISS’ Gene Simmons on an episode of A&E’s Gene Simmons: Family Jewels.

From his early days as Danny Bonaduce’s wingman on Detroit’s number one morning show, Danny Bonaduce and the Q Crew, to one of his current roles sharing the screen with Courtney Cox-Arquette on FX’s Dirt, Heffron has hailed experience from many talented comedians. However, John’s endless innovation can easily be seen in his own comedy. His first live stand up CD, Kid with a Cape, debuted over ten years ago. As a result of his constant touring, his routine has developed and grown and two more successful recordings, Good Kid, Bad Adult and The Better Half, have been released. John repeatedly accomplishes feats that many comedians dream to attain. His New 1 hour Comedy Central Special airs July 18th. This will be his 4th Cd

As Heffron continues to pursue his ambitions and perform live comedy, his adoring crowd continues to multiply. Budd Friedman, founder of the Improv comedy clubs, stated that “John is a very good writer; he is so likeable,” and “all around appealing.” It is no doubt that Heffron is a well sought after performer for many Fortune 500 company events, including Mercedes, Frito Lay, and Johnson & Johnson. Any stand up patron can relate to this comedian’s diverse material that ranges from bar hopping adventures in his twenties to married life in his thirties. John Heffron’s youthful personality and cynical wisdom result in a witty combination that nobody can resist.

Showtimes Wed 8:00 PM, Thu 8:00 PM, Fri-Sat 8:00 PM & 10:30 PM.

Paul Mooney from "Chapelle's Show"

March 30 - April 2, 2011  |  $17.00 - $34.00  |  Helium Comedy Club  |  215.496.9001

imagePaul Mooney was raised by his grandmother in Oakland. In his late teens, he ran away from home to join the circus. He eventually became the ringmaster of the Charles Gody Circus. As the “first Black ringmaster”, he discovered he enjoyed writing jokes and making the crowds laugh.

Mooney met his future frequent writing partner Richard Pryor while he was living with his half-sister in Hollywood. Pryor had come by their apartment while on a date with a friend of Mooney’s sister. Pryor, not knowing Mooney’s half-sister was his sister, proposed they all “get in the bed and have a freak thing.” Mooney kicked Pryor out of the apartment. They later had a drink at a concert together that formed their bond.

For much of his career, Mooney was best known as a comedy writer. Mooney often co-wrote material with Richard Pryor for his specials as well as for Pryor’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” He also served as the head writer for “The Richard Pryor Show.” Mooney claims to be Pryor’s biggest fan, saying that you can hear his laughter on Pryor’s albums.

Mooney’s extensive writing credits include “Sanford and Son” (starring Redd Foxx), Good Times and the first season of the African American sketch comedy show “In Living Color” where he is credited with creating the character of Homey the Clown (which was performed by Damon Wayans).

Paul Mooney continued his associations with rising Black comics with Dave Chappelle, a comedian who many believe has inherited Pryor’s mantle. Mooney guest stared in sketches for Chappelle’s Show, appearing as himself in the Ask a Black Dude and then in a similar segment as Negrodamus, where he again answered questions, this time as a seer. At one point, Chappelle was developing a court show with Paul Mooney.

Mooney is bluntly honest about his feelings on race in America on stage and off. Though it’s presented in humor, some audience members have a hard time taking it that way, occasionally walking out of a performance. This can even be seen or heard on some of Mooney’s DVD and CD releases.

Despite his closeness to Pryor and many other comedians, Mooney claims to have never have taken drugs, asserting that he knew that they would hurt him and his career.

Mooney’s sons, who are twins, are also stand-up comics.

Showtimes Wed 8:00 PM, Thu 8:00 PM, Fri-Sat 8:00 PM & 10:30 PM.

Ben Bailey from "Cash Cab"

April 7 - 9, 2011  |  $25.00 - $37.00  |  Helium Comedy Club  |  215.496.9001

imageAcclaimed stand-up comedian Ben Bailey is the most desired cabbie in New York. He is the host of the highly successful shows "Cash Cab" and "Cash Cab: After Dark" on the Discovery Channel. He was singled out by publications such as Entertainment Weekly, who put Ben on their MUST LIST in 2006, People magazine who said "All Hail Cash Cab," and the New York Post. As a stand-up he has also been profiled in publications such as the New York Times, Maxim, the Associated Press and other reputable publications as well. In fact, "Cash Cab"has gained such a following that he received a Daytime Emmy nomination last year for "Outstanding Game Show Host."

As far back as Ben can remember, he was always delivering something. Whether it was flowers, sandwiches, pizza or people, he had over 68 odd jobs prior to and during his stint as an up and coming stand up comic. He recalls driving passengers in his limo, dropping them off, and then hitting the comedy clubs before coming back to pick them up and take them home. In fact, some of his passengers were so enamored with him that they even came to watch him perform! So, when Ben was offered the job as the host of "Cash Cab," driving was a no brainer. And when he was told that he had to successfully pass real taxi school to become a licensed cab driver in New York City to take the job, Ben passed with flying colors.

Ben got his unlikely start as a stand-up comedian when he was mistaken for a comic in the green room of The Comedy.

Showtimes Thu 8:00 PM, Fri-Sat 8:00 PM & 10:30 PM.

Bill Burr

April 9, 2011  |  8:00 PM  |  $32.50 - $44.70  |  Tower Theatre  |  610.352.2887

imageBill Burr is an American comedian or a comedian from the North American Union, depending on when you read this. He grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts and did fairly poorly in school, despite the fact that he applied himself.

Having first gained notoriety for his reoccurring role on the second season of Chappelle’s Show, Burr has gone on to become a regular performer on the Late Show with David Letterman and to have his very own HBO Half Hour Special.

Bill’s most recent project was an hour-long comedy special entitled: “Why Do I Do This?” that aired on Comedy Central, and is now available in stores and on this web site.

When in New York, Burr always performs on the Opie and Anthony Radio Show and eats at Ray’s Famous Pizza. Bill also co-hosts his own XM radio show, “Uninformed”, with fellow comedian Joe DeRosa.

Bill is against organized religion and believes we should go back to the gold standard for our currency. None of his opinions are based on any sort of reliable information. He tends to go with his first thought, because reading makes him sleepy.

In the future Bill hopes to get married, have some kids, and get a dog. But until then, he will continue to spend most of his mid-afternoons sitting in his sweatpants learning AC/DC songs on his SG.

Joe Rogan

April 14 - 16, 2011  |  $25.00 - $37.00  |  Helium Comedy Club  |  215.496.9001

imageJoe Rogan was the host of the hugely successful reality show, “Fear Factor,” for six seasons on NBC. Prior to “Fear Factor”, Rogan played Joe Garrelli, the resident electrician on the hit NBC comedy series “NewsRadio.”

Since 2002, Rogan has provided color commentary for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) on Pay Per View and Spike Television and also hosts the syndicated show, “UFC Wired.” Rogan’s passion for MMA began with martial arts practice at the age of 13. By the age of 19, Rogan won the US Open Tae Kwon Do Championship and as lightweight champion went on to beat both the middle and heavyweight title-holders to obtain the Grand Championship.

Rogan’s other true love is standup comedy. As a standup comedian for nearly 20 years Joe Rogan has honed an inquisitive and intense comedic style. He exudes a mad joy for life in all its insanity and revels in the art of standup comedy to explore the world with raw honesty. This has made him a national headliner, a favorite performer at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and a guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” In 2000, Rogan released his debut comedy album, “I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday,” on Warner Bros. Dennis Miller

April 28, 2011  |  8:00 PM  |  $39.50 - $98.00  |  Keswick Theatre  |  215.572.7650

imageIt's been said that Miller is "One of the premiere comedy talents in America today..." While others are blunt assessing Miller's comedic stature, Dennis himself makes a virtue of understatement, but there is nothing low key about his career.

Miller is a five-time Emmy award winner for his critically acclaimed half-hour, live talk show "Dennis Miller Live" which had a nine year run on HBO. He also wrote and starred in the Emmy-nominated cable comedy special "Raw Feed", his sixth such special. He was the host and executive producer of CNBC's "Dennis Miller", a topical interview talk show featuring reasoned discourse, opinion and humor. Additionally, Miller has appeared on many politically oriented television talk shows.

He has also been cast in films, usually in dramatic roles, most notably in 1994's "Disclosure," 1995's "The Net," and 1996's "Murder at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue."

In October 2001, HarperCollins published the fourth edition of Miller's popular rants, "The Rant Zone," now out in paperback. Miller's previous books, "I Rant Therefore I Am;" "Ranting Again" and "The Rants" have all been New York Times best sellers. For two seasons, Miller called the plays alongside Al Michaels and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts on ABC's "Monday Night Football." He was also the "Weekend Update" correspondent on "Saturday Night Live" for six years, before exiting in 1991. He has yet to appear in a show with the words, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday in the title.

Over the years, Miller has become both a public and critical favorite. The New York Times said, "Mr. Miller is exquisitely attuned to contemporary foibles...his material can be scathing, his delivery low key...Mr. Miller reaches a bit farther than most comedians for the scorching comment...this smart aleck has an uncommonly sharp eye..." and The Hollywood Reporter called his most recent special, "an hour of topical, scathing brilliance that helps cement Miller's status as the Lenny Bruce of the new millennium...the most cerebral, astute and clever standup ever to put mouth to microphone." August 2006

Bill Cosby

Doug Stanhope

May 13, 2011  |  9:00 PM  |  $24.00  |  Trocadero Theatre  |  215.922.6888

imageDoug Stanhope is a stand-up comic. Has been since 1990.

His material ranges from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism. Doug is vulgar, opinionated, brutally honest and shockingly uninhibited and is certainly not for everybody.
He started his career in Las Vegas doing jack-off jokes for free drinks. Not much has changed, save for the mullet.

Doug has built a wide-ranging television resume of dubious achievement. He hosted The Man Show on Comedy Central as well as the ubiquitous pseudo-porn for the sexually crippled, "Girls Gone Wild", both solely and shamelessly for financial gain. He has appeared on "The Howard Stern Show", "Comedy Central Presents", "Premium Blend", NBC's "Late Friday", "Spy TV" BBC's "Floor Show Live" while on ecstasy and wrote, produced and starred in Fox's "Invasion of the Hidden Cameras" and has even popped up on "Fox News with Greta Van Sustern" and "The Jerry Springer Show".  In 2010, he was the Voice of America on the BBC’s  “Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe”.
None of it compares to seeing him live; Doug is a two-time winner of Time Out New York’s “Best Comedy Performance of the Year”.

He’s appeared at multiple major comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Aspen US Comedy Arts, Chicago Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotland, where he won the Strathmore Press Award for Best Act of the Fringe in his debut year.

Selected by both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter as one of the Top Ten Comics To Watch, Doug has released four CDs and three DVDs including "No Refunds" on Showtime in 2008.

Pauly Shore

May 19, 2011  |  9:00 PM  |  $25.00  |  Trocadero Theatre  |  215.922.6888

imageAn entertainment career was virtually pre-ordained for Pauly Montgomery Shore. At age 4, he sat on the lap of The King himself in the company of his father, comedian Sammy Shore, who opened for Elvis during the early '70s. Around the same time, Pauly's mother, Mitzi, and father opened The Comedy Store on Hollywood's Sunset Strip, giving their son the rare opportunity to hang out and be inspired by such rising talents as Robin Williams, David Letterman and the late Sam Kinison, who became his mentor.

At 17, Pauly began writing and performing his own material, creating the persona of "The Weasel," a character that quickly appealed to young audiences. While playing small roles in such movies as 18 Again and Phantom of the Mall, Pauly honed his comedy routine to a frenetic level, gaining the attention of MTV, which, in 1990, gave him his own show, "Totally Pauly."

Pauly rose to national attention during a strong four-year run on MTV, also revealing his comedy chops on the 1993 HBO special "Pauly Does Dallas." His initial success on television led to a three-movie deal with Disney, beginning with the box-office hit Encino Man, co-starring Sean Astin and Brendan Fraser.

In 2003, Pauly produced, wrote, directed and starred in the critically acclaimed, Pauly Shore Is Dead, a semi-autobiographical mockumentary in which he satirizes the perils of Hollywood. In the film, Pauly loses everything and decides to fake his death in a quest for post-mortem adulation. He called in a lot of favors to get the project made and managed to wrangle big-star cameos from the likes of Sean Penn, Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Dre, Clint Howard, Perry Farrell, Fred Durst, Verne Troyer, Andy Dick, Mark McGrath, Jerry Springer, Montel Williams, Sally Jessy Raphael, Kurt Loder and Paris Hilton, to name a few.

Pauly Continues to tour the world with his stand-up comedy. He can be seen in the comedy special PAULY SHORE AND FRIENDS that has been airing on Showtime. Pauly starred in movie Opposite Day set to release in 2010. He was recently a creative consultant in Comedic film called ‘Brand Dead' and also had a role as well. Pauly has just finished filming the upcoming Happy Madsion film called Born to be a Star feat. Nick Swardson.

Pauly continues to produce and direct, with his latest feature Adopted, scheduled for release on June 15, 2010, where he satirizes the phenomenon of celebrity adoptions as he travels to Africa to adopt an African baby. In addition, he has several short subject films and multiple projects in the works such as his MTV pilot called "The Shores" and Various projects with Will Farrell's website FUNNY or DIE.
